“Nuo degančios upės iki vandens turizmo: bendruomenės pastangos atkuriant Rouge upės aplinką (Detroit, Michigan, USA)”
Kviečiame į viešą paskaitą apie Rouge upės raidą Detroite, Mičigano valstijoje. Renginys vyks kovo 9 d. 17 val. Prezidento Valdo Adamkaus bibliotekoje-muziejuje, S. Daukanto g. 25, Kaune.
Paskaitos svečiai Paul Draus ir David Norwood kalbės apie laikotarpį nuo Europos kolonizacijos iki pramonės eros, daugiausia dėmesio skiriant pastangoms apsaugoti ir atkurti Rogue upę, taip pat 1970 m. įkurtai JAV Aplinkosaugos agentūrai, kurioje 5-ojo skyriaus vadovu buvo Prezidentas Valdas Adamkus, bei 1972 m. priimtam Švaraus vandens įstatymui.
Bus diskutuojama apie įvairialypių ryšių su partneriais kūrimą bei palaikymą, pateikta ateities vizija šiam gyvybiškai svarbiam miesto baseinui, kuris yra tarsi balansas tarp bendruomenės, aplinkos ir ekonomikos.
Paul Draus yra Michigan-Dearborn universiteto sociologijos profesorius; Fort-Rouge Gateway Partnership – akademikų, bendruomenės, vyriausybės, indurstrijos ir ne pelno siekiančių partnerių koalicijos, dirbančios Rouge upės žemupio pertvarkymui – dalyvis.
David Norwood yra buvęs Michigan Dearborn miesto tvarumo koordinatorius ir šiuo metu dirba Canton miestelio Mičigano valstijoje komunalinių paslaugų skyriaus direktoriaus pavaduotoju.
Paul Draus ir David Norwood yra ne pelno siekiančios organizacijos Rouge upės Draugai, įkurtos 1986 metais, skirtos atkreipti dėmesį į būtinybę valyti Rouge upę, valdybos nariai.

„This presentation will describe the evolution of the Rouge River in Detroit, Michigan from the period of European colonization through the industrial era, with a focus on efforts to protect and restore the river following the foundation of the US Environmental Protection Agency in 1970 and the passage of the Clean Water Act in 1972. We will discuss the process of building and maintaining diverse partnerships and present a future vision for this vital urban watershed that balances the needs of the community, the environment and the economy.“
Paul Draus is a Professor of Sociology at the University of Michigan-Dearborn who facilitates the Fort-Rouge Gateway Partnership, a coalition of academic, community, government, industry, and nonprofit partners dedicated to the green redevelopment of the lower Rouge River.
David Norwood is the former Sustainability Coordinator for the City of Dearborn, Michigan and currently serves as Deputy Director of Canton Township’s Municipal Services Division in Canton, Michigan.
Paul Draus and David Norwood both sit on the Board of Directors for Friends of the Rouge, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that was founded in 1986 to raise awareness about the need to clean up the Rouge River in southeast Michigan.
